(Wang Chuan/Xiu Chuanyi) In 2015, the accumulated output of natural gas in Xinjiang exceeded 30.5 billion cubic meters, breaking the threshold of 30 billion cubic meters for the first time. So far, Xinjiang has become the second province to have an annual output of natural gas exceeding 30 billion cubic meters after Shaanxi province.
In achieving this breakthrough, the oil field of Tarim contributed 78% of the output. Cao Xingbin, the deputy chief engineer with the transportation and sales department of natural gas of Tarim oil field said, Tarim oil field is one of the major sources of natural gas for West-East natural gas transmission, whose output of natural gas had grown from 351 million cubic meters in 2004 to 23.551 billion cubic meters in 2015. Especially in the recent five years, with the increase of natural gas consumption at the lower streams of the transmission routine, it grew at a speed of 7.6% year on year on average.
The natural gas resource reserve of Xinjiang accounts for 28% the reserve of China, which is a major region of natural gas in China and whose natural gas exploration and development has attracted a lot of attention from the nation. In September 1998, Kela 2 large natural gas field was discovered by Tarim Oil Field Company, which promoted the launch of the West-East natural gas transmission project and rapid development of natural gas industry of China.
With the operation of the project in 2004, the natural gas development of Xinjiang has entered a fast track. Three natural gas fields, Tarim Oil Field Company, Xinjiang Oil Field Company and Tu-ha Oil Field Company under PetroChina and one oil and gas field of Sinopec had produced an accumulation of 5.7 cubic meters of natural gas that year, which produced 10.6 cubic meters in 2005, breaking the threshold of 10 billion cubic meters for the first time; in 2007, they produced 21.0 billion cubic meters of natural gas, becoming the first province to exceed the annual output threshold of 20 billion cubic meters of natural gas in China.
